KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25, 2014:
Malaysian paralympian and Asian Paralympic Games triple gold medalist Mohammad Azlan Mat Lazin died tragically following a road accident today.
The Terengganu-born athlete was believed to have died on the spot in the accident while fellow athlete Farisan Jasna is believed to have been injured and is currently admitted to the Serdang Hospital.
Mohd Safrushahar had also said that both athletes were riding on a motorcycle when they were involved in the accident with a van.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin tweeted his condolences earlier, describing the news as devastating.
“Absolutely devastated by news of Azlan & Farisan’s road accident. Our paralympians. Azlan triple gold medal winner at Asian Para Games,” he said.
The Rembau Member of Parliament is expected to arrive at the hospital later this evening.
Mohammad Azlan, 25, had won three gold medals in athletics in the men’s 100m, 200m and 400m events during the Asian Paralympic Games in Incheon, South Korea, last year.
