The Merdeka Kuala Kubu Baru 21km Road Relay is the brainchild of former national middle-distance runner B. Rajkumar. It was organised with the aim to encourage more athletes to take up the sport as well as see the revival of Road Races in Malaysia.

In the event last Saturday at the Hulu Selangor Mini Stadium, Kuala Kubu Baru, each team comprised a relay of four runners, with each runner running for 5.25km.

A timing chip was affixed to the baton and each runner’s time was accurately recorded.

A total of 88 teams took part in the six categories – Men’s Open (13 teams), Women’s Open (8), Men’s Junior (18), Women’s Junior (18), Boys Junior (21) and Girls Junior (10).
