Adi, 26, winner of the gold medal in 2008 (Kuala Lumpur), 2010 (Chiangmai, Thailand) and 2012 (Vientiane, Laos), hopes his experience would give him the edge over his opponents.
The final year student at Universiti Putra Malaysia says the AUG would be the best platform for him to prepare for the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.
“For me the main opposition will come from Thailand athletes because they have a pool of very talented athletes at the various age groups.
“I am currently training under former national decathlete Malik Tobias and after only a month I could see improvement in my technique,” he told reporters when met at the centralised training camp in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), today.
Athletes bound for the AUG in Palembang checked into the UKM for centralised training today before leaving to Palembang on Saturday.
Apart from being the defending champion and three times gold medallist, Adi is also the National record holder in the shot put with a distance of 17.53m which was set during the 2011 SEA Games in Palembang.
The AUG kicks off on Wednesday while athletics opens its door at the Jaka Baring Athletics Stadium on December 15. – Bernama, December 3, 2014
