PETALING JAYA: An injury to national sprinter Mohd Haiqal Hanafi seemed to have opened the door for Efrain Feerzan Qhan (pic) to shine.
The 21-year-old won the Pahang Open Superseries 200m race with a time of 21.94s, which is also his first-ever gold medal in the Super Series.
Akmal Aqilla Selamat took silver with a time of 22.10s, while Daniel Alonso Lidi finished third with a time of 22.54s.
In the 100m race on Saturday, Pahang-born Efrain finished second with a time of 10.82s, and in the previous Super Series meet, which is the Perak Open, he won a bronze in the 200m. Efrain said it was a relief to finally win gold in the Super Series.
“I am delighted after winning the race but that does not mean my journey is done,” said Efrain.
“I was not too happy with the time I set. I wanted to be faster, so I was disappointed not to clock a good time. Everything else was good.
